The Master Plan

Something I have wanted to do for a long while is have a home for old pets. There's loads of reasons older pets are left homeless, whether it's high cost of vet bills or the horrible view that it's not so much fun any more, sometimes it's just because their elderly owner has died. Well I want to give them a home. Somewhere they won’t be put down just for their age, where they are treated with the dignity a loyal pet deserves. It would of course offer the Old Age Pets (OAP's) for adoption, but there would be no squirming little balls of fluff to distract potential owners (nothing wrong with a puppy or kitten but the distinguished lot need a chance too).

It will be a very long while before I am able to do any of this, there are a few things I'll need just to start off.

  • A vet - Or right now a student training to be a vet, hopefully I'll find someone who doesn't want to get rich, of course if they're training to be a vet and think they'll get rich in that profession they're fairly delusional... much like me with this entire idea so they may well be perfect. (Other staff would also be needed - nurses and dog walkers mostly)

  • Kennels - Somewhere to keep the lovely OAP's dry and warm. Owning would be better than renting but that's wishful thinking.

  • Become a charity? - Something to look into, the legal definitions etc.

  • Money - Going to need a fair bit of it. The vet and other staff will need feeding much like the animals, plus there's equipment and medicines not forgetting buying (read "renting") the kennel, and all the extra costs I don't even know about.

There are of course some things in my way.

  • Money - I have none. At all. This is a rather large problem as it's the biggest thing I will need seeing as it affects all areas. Grants would be something to look into getting but I'll have to be at a very serious and organised point before I even think about applying.

But this is what I want to do, and now I’m getting serious about it. Hopefully I’ll keep track of all I do towards my goal right here.
